December 2015 Book Haul

The month of December was extremely stressful, busy, but so amazingly enjoyable at the same time. Christmas is my favourite holiday so I enjoyed binge watching Christmas movies, decorating the tree, and spending time with family. During December I also did some shopping, which means that of coarse I bought a bunch of books. In this book haul I have 22 books to show you. The majority of the books I have came from Book Outlet during their Black Friday sale. The other books I bought from Chapters or they were given to me as a Christmas present. This book haul contains books that I have wanted for a long time, new 2015 releases, and some books that I had never even heard of before I got them. So overall I will be going into 2016 with about 70 books that I own and haven’t read yet!

Books From Book Outlet

The Book Outlet Black Friday sale was crazy. The website was crashing and books in my cart were being sold out before I could buy them but I was able to get 15 of the books I wanted. The main book I was determined to get from Book Outlet was We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach. We All Looked Up is a book that was released earlier in 2015 and I had been wanting to get it ever since it came out because it seemed interesting and unique from all the other books I usually read. Another book I bought was Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick. The third book I bought was Love? Maybe by Heather Helper. I also bought The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu and  My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal. Another book I bought was Love and Other Theories by Alexis Bass. I hadn’t heard of this book before but I loved the cover of it so I bought it. Other books that I bought in this order include Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel, Galgorithm by Aaron Karo, The Treatment by Suzanne Young, and Paper Or Plastic by Vivi Barnes. I also bought a Christmas book by Kate Brian called Ex-Mas. In order to own all of Jennifer E. Smith’s book I bought You Are Here. I also bought the sequel to a book I bought in my last Book Outlet order which is Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven. The final two books I bought was The Book Of Ivy by Amy Engel and Waiting by Carol Lynch Williams.

Books From Chapters

I bought three books from Chapters during my final exam season as I way to keep me motivated and I had a Chapters gift card I wanted to get rid of before Christmas. The first book I bought was Not After Everything by Michelle Levy. Everything about this book from the cover to the synopsis appealed to me and I’m sure I’m going to love it. The second book I bought from Chapters was OCD Love Story by Corey Ann Haydu. To be honest I mostly bought this book because of it’s beautiful cover and I love reading about cute romances. The final book I bought from Chapters was Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter. I don’t usually read books like this but the plot seemed really entertaining and the characters sounded fun so I thought I would give this series a try.

Christmas Gift Books

I received four books for Christmas. The first two books I received were from my brother. He bought me Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and Boomerang by Michael Lewis. These two books had never been on my radar but I am looking forward to expanding my reading horizons. I am especially looking forward to reading Boomerang because as a business student I am extremely interested in finance and I have read Money Ball by Michael Lewis and loved it. The other two books I got were from my mom. She bought me Finding Mr. Brightside by Jay Clark and The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak. These two books were on my Christmas list and both are 2015 releases. I have been dying to read both of these books all year since they were released in the spring of 2015 so I was very excited to get these books.

Most Anticipated Books of December

It’s already December and I can’t believe the year went by so fast! I had an amazing year. So many great things happened and I read so many great books. The year, however, isn’t over yet and there is still another month in 2015 that is filled with exciting book releases. Some of these books will definitely be on my Christmas list this year!

1. The Trouble With Destiny by Lauren Morrill

2. What’s Broken Between  Us by Alexis Bass

October 2015 Book Haul

Hey everybody! I warn you this month’s book haul is huge. In total it includes 19 books and although this is an October book haul, I ordered all of these books in September. In case you are confused as to why I didn’t just put all these books in the September book haul, I couldn’t do that because they were shipped to my home address and not my address at university so I didn’t actually open the box of books until I went home for Thanksgiving in October. However, I am still so excited about all of the books I received. The books are a variety of books in series I’ve started, series I want to start, books by authors I love, and books by authors I haven’t read before. Most of the books I bought from Book Outlet because I had a $5 off coupon that I wanted to use and the rest of the books I bought off Amazon. I wasn’t planning on making an order from Amazon but they sent me a $10 off coupon because I hadn’t ordered anything from them in over a year. 😀

Books From Amazon

This month I bought 4 books from Amazon. This order mostly consists of books that I haven’t heard a lot of people talking about and books that I couldn’t get on Chapters but there is one book in the order that was extremely popular. The first book from the order was Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. This book is the third and final novel in the Anna and the French Kiss companion novel series. I had read and absolutely loved the first two books so I am super excited to read the final one but I’m also sad to say goodbye to the characters. Also, this book has an astonishing beautiful cover. The second book I bought from Amazon was Bad Romeo Leisa Rayven. This is the first book in the new adult series Starcrossed. Another book in the order was The Fine Art of Pretending by Rachel Harris. The final book I got from Amazon was Roomies by Lindy Zart which I believe is another new adult novel.

Books From Book Outlet

I will admit I went a little crazy on Book Outlet for this order. I ended up buying 15 books from Book Outlet and that was with leaving some books that I wanted to buy in the shopping cart for my next order. The first book I bought was The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski. The next book I bought was Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. I have wanted to read that book so badly for awhile because I saw the movie and absolutely loved it so I hope the book is justas good, if not better, than the movie. Another book I got was Catherine by April Linder. Also, in this order I bought two books by Jennifer Echols which are Going Too Far and Biggest Flirts. Biggest Flirts is the first book in Jennifer Echols’ Superlatives series. I also bought One Night That Changes Everything by Lauren Barnholdt. The next two books I bought are part of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicles of Nick series. They are the third and fourth books which are called Infamous and Inferno. I also bought the rest of the Of Poseidon series by Anna Banks. I was incredibly intrigued by the first book and it left off with a huge cliffhanger so I had to get the second and third books called Of Triton and Of Neptune. The next book I bought was Licence To Spill by Lisi Harrison which is the second book in the Pretenders series. I haven’t read the first book yet but the concept of the series sounds so interesting that I felt like I would love the series so I went ahead and bought the second book. The remaining four books I bought in the Book Outlet order include Random by Tom Leveen, In Deep by Terra Elan McVoy, Adrenaline Crush by Laurie Boyle Crompton, and finally In Honor by Jessi Kirby! Overall, I was able to buy 6 hardcovers and 9 paperbacks from Book Outlet for a total of $71.70 which included shipping.

Most Anticipated Books of November

Hey I’m back! Last month I didn’t make a list of my most anticipated book releases of October because I was extremely busy and their wasn’t that many books being released in October that I was excited to read but November is a totally different story. There are so many books being released that sound amazing and have amazing covers. I haven’t read any previous books by most of these authors but I’m looking forward to trying new authors. So if you have any book recommendations for me in any type of genre I am very open to trying new books!

The Lies About the Truth For The RecordThe Anatomical Shape of the Heart Promises I Made Need

4. Need by Joelle Charbonneau

Those are my top five most anticipated book releases of November but there were a few more books that I was also looking forward to in November. One of those books is Hello? by Liza M. Wiemer which is being released on November 10. The other book is called Sweet Nothing by Jamie McGuire and Teresa Mummert which is being released on November 1.

Hello? Sweet Nothing

September 2015 Book Haul

Hey everyone! I can’t believe that September is already almost over. It went by so quickly. At the beginning of September I started my first year of university and haven’t had time to read a single book this month or go shopping for books. Thus I only have one book in my book haul this month so it’s not really a haul. However, I am super excited to read this book in the future so I wanted to share it with you. There were books that I ordered online in September from Book Outlet but they were shipped to my permanent address and not my university dorm one so I will include those in my October book haul because I’ll get to open them when I go home for Thanksgiving.

The only book I bought this month was Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith. I bought this book from Chapters. This book was released in September and was part of my most anticipated book releases of September list. I bought this book because the plot of the novel seemed really intriguing and the main characters are at the same point in their lives as I am right now. Also, I absolutely love Jennifer E. Smith’s writing and novels because they are always so cute. Therefore, I will read anything she releases. Jennifer E. Smith’s books always have adorable covers and this one is no exception. I love everything about it. The pink colour is really pretty and the picture on the cover with the outline of the city skyline is amazingly cute. I highly recommend you check it out.

What Do You Mean

Let me first say that I’m not a huge fan of Justin Bieber. In the beginning I was obsessed with “One Time” and “Baby” but then you know Justin started changing and making horrible decisions. However, lately his music has been really good. In fact, the song “What Do You Mean” is one of my favourites at the moment. I literally can’t hear it enough. Everything about this song is insanely good. The music itself is really chill, like I could play this song while driving or hanging out with friends. It’s the perfect JustinBieberWhatDoYouMeanCovercombination of upbeat and casual. I also really loved the added element of the clock ticking in the background. I think it gave the song a whole other dimension and meaning. What I mean by this is that because the clock ticking is throughout the song it gives the listener the impression that the girl only has a certain amount of time to make up her mind before the guy is going to move on with his life. Thus, the ticking contributes to the story of the song. Another aspect that I liked about the song was the lyrics. The lyrics were extremely relateable. Sometimes when it comes to guy I don’t know what I want and I get confused. So I think everyone can relate to the lyrics of this song because they have probably lived through a similar situation since it can be so hard to decide whether to stay in the relationship or move on. Honestly, sometimes it is completely necessary to ask a guy what do they mean because they can be just as confusing.

Mainly because this was a Justin Bieber song people were fully prepared to critical of it and try to find controversy with the song. The controversy ended up being that people thought that the song promoted the sexual assault/rape culture or actions. However, I think this is one of the biggest stretches for interpreting a song ever. The concept of a girl nodding her head yes but wanting to say no for me is saying that the girl doesn’t really know what she wants out of the relationship which is completely normal. I know that sometimes I like a guy but I also know that I should stay away from him because he could be bad news. It is the struggle of figuring out if you really want to be in the relationship or not. As a girl I can say that myself and most of the female population change our minds all the time which can be confusing to guys. Therefore, I don’t think this song is at all promoting sexual assault. Not every song has to be about sex, sometimes it is just about relationships in general. That being said sexual assault is a serious topic and one thing to remember when dealing with sexual relations is always respect the person’s answer.

Onto a lighter topic…. The lyric video for “What Do You Mean” was interesting to watch. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you watch the video which I will post below. The main reason why I love it is because it is people skateboarding around a city. It’s not just any random skateboarders either, it’s Ryan Sheckler! If you know me, you know I love watching snowboarding and skateboarding so this lyric video concept was perfect for me. I think it was also perfect concept to help rebrand Justin’s personal brand. It shows people a more relateable side of him that is chill and normal as opposed to the Justin that had been portrayed in the media as a delinquent womanizer (which was kinda true). Overall, the lyric video gave off a really chill vibe that was simple in the best way possible.

Hot. Mysterious. Confusing. Entertaining. All of these words accurately describe the music video for the song “What Do You Mean”. The plot of the mysterious fake kidnapping, Justin saving him and the girl, and then them ending up at a skateboard underground party was extremely entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat watching it trying to figure out what was really going on and guessing what was going to happen. It was a cool innovative idea that I aIMG_1350appreciated. In some ways it felt like a mini movie. Again skateboarding appeared in the music video (just like in the lyric video), so I also loved that. It is also impossible to describe this video without mentioning how HOT is was. The passion between Justin and the girl while they were in the hotel room was intense and kinda what every girl dreams of. It was done in a beautiful cinematic way that wasn’t too “vulgar”. My favourite part of the video is when they jump because Justin asking her to trust him was an incredibly sweet moment. The only negative thing I could say about the video was Justin’s unfortunate haircut at the moment but it didn’t take away from the video at all. Overall, I wish that I had been invited to the underground skateboarding party!

All in all, in my opinion “What Do You Mean” is a great song that I have replayed over and over again. It may not be my favourite song of all time but it is a good song. I recommend that everyone give this song a chance and not automatically hate it just because it is Justin Bieber that released it. I think from the sounds of this single Justin’s music in the future will be just as good and that his career will start to flourish again.

Luke Hemmings

KVBNcb9oXrLwPTsdeAcpJMSpIf a person were to ask me what my definition of a perfect guy was I would without a doubt say Luke Hemmings. Luke Hemmings part of the band 5 Seconds of Summer where he plays guitar and sings. I could go on and on forever describing all the reasons why Luke is an awesome person and totally crush-worthy. One of the reasons why Luke really stood out to me in the first place (besides the fact that he is amazing performer and talented musician) was because he is Australian. More specifically he was born in Sydney Australia on July 16, 1996. Since he’s Australian he has a super cute accent. Also, it isn’t very often that an Australian band is able to become mainstream and super successful but Luke and the rest of the band were able to make it happen. This shows how dedicated and passionate Luke is towards music. It’s inspiring to see people my age being successful and following their dreams because it reassures me that I can accomplish anything as long as I work hard and never give up. Another thing I love about Luke is the way he performs. I was lucky enough to be able to see him perform as the opening act of One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour in Toronto and he absolutely blew me away. Hearing them play live is even better then hearing their recorded songs and they are all so energetic and interactive with the crowd. In particular, when they are performing I love the way that Luke sings into the mic and then grabs it. Overall, 5 Seconds of Summer is one of my favourite bands thus I adore Luke and the rest of the band (Ashton, Michael, and Calum) for their musical abilities and passion, dedication, and attitude towards music.

You can’t really talk about Luke and not mention how adorable he is. First of all his hair is so cute and perfect. People joke a lot about how it makes him even taller but I think it fits him perfectly. Luke also has some of the best blue eyes I’ve ever seen. They could light up a room. Speaking about lighting up a room, I also love his smile and facial expressions. His facial expressions can be a little goofy sometimes but it just adds to his charm. Luke didn’t always have a lip ring but when he got one it was the first time I’ve actually loved the look of the lip ring. It suits his punk rock style perfectly and it isn’t too much. All in all, there is no flaw in Luke’s appearance. I love every single part of him and I think a person would have to be blind if they didn’t think Luke was cute.

Although Luke looks pretty close to perfect, the thing that makes him so cute is his personality. He is the perfect mixture of charming, goofy, and a little shy/quiet at times. I bet joking around with Luke and doing silly or embarrassing things with him would be extremely fun. I like how he doesn’t take himself too seriously but he is capable of being serious when it’s needed. I also think of Luke as a very caring person who is close with his family, especially his mom. In my opinion a guy being close with his family is such a sweet thing because it shows the softer side to him and it contributes to the fact that I see Luke as a very down to Earth guy. He seems pretty chill all the time like you could just sit around and talk for hours about nothing and everything. Luke is also super nice to his fans which just shows how good of a guy he truly is. Also, in interviews and videos he seems really funny. Another side of Luke that is awesome is when he does crazy things that can be a little weird but he owns that weirdness. He seems so confident in himself as he knows who he is and won’t try to pretend to be something he’s not.  I am convinced that a person could never be sad or entertained around Luke Hemmings. He has the type of personality that could light up a room and make you feel completely at ease and happy.

From his music, to his appearance, to his personality Luke Hemmings is the perfect package. I wish I could be close friends with him because he seems like such a nice and dynamic person. He can rock out, sing, and write some of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Mix his astonishing talent with his stunning looks and awesome personality, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t like him.If by now you still aren’t convinced that Luke is an amazing human-being then there are pictures and videos posted below!

Here are videos of Luke’s solos and the music video for the song Amnesia by 5SOS:

August 2015 Book Haul

Another month has come and gone and although I had intended not to buy as many books I did pick up a few this month. Sometimes book deals are just too hard to pass up! 😀 lol this month I bought 9 books to help replenish my TBR pile. I got most of my books from Chapters online since they always have a bigger bargain book selection on their website than in-stores. Also, I picked up a few books at Walmart since I was there finishing up my dorm room shopping.

Books From Chapters:

Chapters is one of my favourite places to shop online for books because they have free shipping on orders over $25 and plum rewards members get the books cheaper online than they would be in the store. This month most of the books I bought were books that I had been wanting to get for awhile and it just so happened that they were in the bargain book section. So for a couple of my hardcover books I only paid about $5! One book series I had been meaning to start is the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines. The boxset of the first four books of the series which are Breathe, Because of Low, While It Lasts, and Just For Now was on sale and I snatched it right up. I’m looking forward to these books because they seem like cute summer reads that are just full of fluff. Another book in my Chapters order was Love and Other Foreign Words by Erin McCahan. The third book I bought was Pretenders by Lisi Harrison. The final book I bought from Chapters this month was Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid which was part of my Most Anticipated Books of August  list.

Books From Walmart:

Another deal on books I got this month was at Walmart where the books were 2 for $12. With this deal I was delighted to see that Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover and Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire were part of the deal. I read the Slammed Series by Colleen Hoover and loved it some I’ve been trying to read more of her books and Ugly Love seemed interesting. Earlier in August I read Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire and it became one of my faviourite books so I can’t wait to read Walking Disaster which is told in Travis’s point of view.

Most Anticipated Books of September

I can’t believe it’s already September! Summer flew by so quickly and I was able to read a lot of great books. However, now that I’ll be moving and starting my first year of university I will likely be reading very little especially since I have really tough classes all year. Nonetheless, I still have books that are coming out in September which I have been anxiously waiting to be released all year. I may not get around to purchasing and reading them this month but I hope some of you will and let me know if they end up being as good as the synopsis makes them out to be.
